Commune
The commune of Valea Ierii is located in the south-western part of Cluj County, on the border with Alba County. It is bordered to the south-east by the territory of Băişoara commune, to the north-east by Săvădisla commune, to the west and north-west by Măguri Răcătău commune, and to the south by Poşaga commune, in Alba County.
The total area of the commune is 14,888 hectares, representing 2.2% of the administrative area of Cluj County. From this point of view, Valea Ierii ranks among the larger communes of our county.
Geographically, Valea Ierii lies in the mountainous region of the Apuseni Mountains, northeast of Muntele Mare and south of the Gilău Mountains, in the hydrographic basin of the Iara River, between the coordinates: 46° 30’ 34” – 46° 40’ 16” north latitude and 23° 07’ 20” – 23° 23’ 49” east longitude.
The commune of Valea Ierii has a population of 864 inhabitants and includes three villages: Valea Ierii (the administrative center), Cerc, and Plopi.
Valea Ierii is located 54 km from the city of Cluj-Napoca and 50 km from the city of Turda.
The commune is connected to Cluj-Napoca via the county road Valea Ierii – Băişoara – Săvădisla – Luna de Sus and the national road E60 – Cluj-Napoca. It is connected to the city of Turda via the county road Valea Ierii – Băişoara – Iara – Buru – Turda.
